Overview
An Archaeology and Material Science major at Columbia University, Li comes to Cornell to conduct research in experimental archaeology, with a particular focus on pyrotechnology. Their interests include the study of ancient technologies and archaeological materials from the perspective of materials science and engineering with equal concern for the gendered and political labor entailed in their emergence. Li has conducted research on reconstructions and firings of updraft kilns in Neolithic China, as well as on concrete recycling. They have participated in field projects at Hadrian’s Villa and Rebun Island, Japan.
