The CIAMS awards program offers grant opportunities for Cornell undergraduates for archaeological research and travel; to undergraduate Archaeology majors for conference travel for the purpose of giving presentations; to CIAMS M.A. and affiliated Ph.D. students for research, travel, and conference presentations. Lewin Undergraduate Research and Travel Grants
Thanks to the generosity of the Lewin Family, grants are available to help Cornell students participate in research experiences led by Cornell faculty. Applications for Lewin support are initiated by the Cornell faculty member leading the research experience. Students seeking support from the Lewin grants should speak to the CIAMS faculty member leading their program.
Hirsch Undergraduate Archaeological Research and Travel Grants
Hirsch undergraduate awards support archaeological research experiences that are organized by institutions that are not associated with Cornell. Please see the application form for additional details.
CIAMS Undergraduate Conference Travel Awards
CIAMS Undergraduate Conference Travel Awards support students presenting a paper or poster or otherwise formally participating in a conference. Grants cannot be used for conference attendance without a presentation. Please see the application for further details.
Hirsch Graduate Archaeological Research and Travel Grants
Hirsch Graduate Archaeological Research and Travel Grants provide funding for research and travel expenses related to the masters or doctoral thesis. Please see the application for further details.
NOTE: In order for graduate students to be eligible to apply for Hirsch Graduate Archaeological Research and Travel scholarships, they must be a full member of CIAMS.
This means that they have completed the CIAMS core seminar, and either completed or be enrolled in "The Craft of Archaeology.” If applying for funding while enrolled in "Craft of Archaeology,” students must successfully complete the course before funds can be disbursed. In cases where access to funds are required prior to the completion of “Craft," requests for early disbursement can be made by petition to the CIAMS Director.
